Odysseo Varuna Project Video By Luca Bigara
Recent work for Odysseo Maurtius.
Odysseo, is very proud to be at the forefront of one of the Varuna Biodiversité initiatives in Mauritius.
Led by the Odysseo Foundation members, this ambitious project aims to revitalise vital blue carbon ecosystems, focusing on mangroves and seagrasses—key habitats for capturing carbon, protecting coastlines, and supporting rich biodiversity.
Working alongside our dedicated partners ADD, Fondation Solidarité, and Attitude Foundation, we are committed to restoring these natural assets and building resilience against climate change. The Odysseo Foundation will spearhead these restoration efforts, ensuring both environmental impact and community engagement.
Beyond ecological restoration, the project incorporates innovative, community-driven activities. In Le Morne, local residents will be trained through Fondation Solidarité to produce honey from mangroves, creating a unique, sustainable income source while fostering a deeper connection to conservation.
A critical component of this project is scientific research in collaboration with Blue Z_C with plans to create the first seagrass nursery using seeds in the Indian Ocean. This breakthrough initiative, which uses seagrass seeds for restoration, is the first of its kind in the region and has the potential to play a transformative role in preserving these essential ecosystems.
